Remove the tailgate from the truck and place face up across saw horses or work bench.
Remove plastic trim around the handle ( this piece snaps in place). Be sure to carefully remove this trim piece so that the four holding clips donít get broken.
Turn the tailgate over so the backside is facing up.
Remove the handle taking out the three bolts on the backside of the tailgate. Disconnect the two rods connected to the handle.
Place supplied template in the center of the backside of the tailgate. Line up the three handle holes on the template with the holes on the backside of the tailgate.
Trace out the dotted line area, this is the area that you will cut out. Using a die grinder with a cutting disc or a drill and a jigsaw with a steel cutting blade. Drill four 5/16î holes, one in each corner. Then using a die grinder or jigsaw cut from corner to corner.
Now you are ready to bolt the handle to the relocater bracket with the orginial three bolts that held the handle on. Now place the handle assembly in the hole to mark the ten mounting holes.
After marking the holes remove the handle assembly and with a 1/8î drill bit, drill the ten mounting holes.
Take the two rod clips in the handle and flip them so the rods lock in place.
Place supplied handle hole cover over existing handle hole and spot weld into place. We recommend a mig (wire feed) welder. Welding one continuous line around cover plate may cause the tailgate to warp.
Grind down the welds and fill with body filler, block sand, primer and then paint. Now you are ready to install the tailgate back onto the truck.
