INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
TAILGATE HANDLE RELOCATER
87-96 DODGE DAKOTA
PART # 2986118

For best results, please read all instructions thoroughly prior to attempting installation of your SIR MICHAEL'S tailgate handle relocater. SIR MICHAEL'S recommends the use of approved hand, eye and ear safety equipment while performing this installation. If you have any questions concerning the installation of your SIR MICHAEL'S tailgate handle relocater please contact our customer service department at (714) 379-6800, Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).

NOTE: Any part that is modified and/or painted are non returnable.

Remove the tailgate from the truck and place on saw horses or on work bench.

Remove the cover off the backside of the tailgate and disconnect the clips that hold the rods to the handle and unbolt the handle from the tailgate.

Reverse the plastic clips on the handle to the other side of the handle then bolt the handle to the relocater. Doing this when you install the handle to the inside of the tailgate, the rods will snap into place on the handle.

Now you are ready to screw down the relocater to the inside of the tailgate. Make sure to test the handle to see if it works freely and pulls the latch in far enough to release the tailgate from the bed.

Place supplied handle hold cover over existing handle hole and spot weld into place. We recommend a mig (wire feed) welder. NOTE: Welding completely around the cover plate may cause the tailgate to warp in this area.

Grind down the welds and fill with body filler, block sand, primer and then paint. The tailgate is now ready for installation back onto the truck.
