TAILGATE HANDLE RELOCATOR 97-UP FORD F-150, F-350 & SUPERCREW PART# 1189700
For best results, please read all instructions thoroughly prior to attempting installation of your SIR MICHAEL’S tailgate handle relocater. SIR MICHAEL’S recommends the use of approved hand, eye and ear safety equipment while performing this installation. If you have any questions concerning the installation of your SIR MICHAEL’S tailgate handle relocater please contact our customer service department at (714) 379-6800, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).
NOTE: Any part that is modified and/or painted are non returnable.
- Remove the tailgate from the truck and place face down on saw horses or work bench.
- Remove inside inspection panel, disconnect rods from handle, then remove the two mounting bolts and remove handle from tailgate. Fig 1,2 & 3
- Using diagram A, cut inner bracing to make room for relocater. Fig. 4 & 5
- Using diagram B, cut inspection panel. Fig. 6 & 7
- The inner brace must also be cut out. Fig. 8
- Reinstall inspection panel into tailgate and bolt down.
- Mount handle into relocater using factory bolts. Fig. 9 & 10
- Place handle relocater in tailgate and hook up latch rods. Fig. 11
- Using supplied screws, mount relocater to tailgate. Fig. 12 Make sure handle and rods move freely.
- Turn tailgate over face up.
- Remove all paint from original handle hole and approximately 2” around hole. Fig. 13
- Place supplied handle hole cover over existing hole and tack weld into place. We recommend a mig (wire feed) welder. NOTE: Welding one continuous line will cause tailgate to warp. Tack a small area then let cool and repeat until complete. Fig. 14
- Grind down the welds and finish off with body filler, block sand, primer and paint. Now your ready to re-install the tailgate back onto the truck.
